In 1932, the legendary Robert Perrier, founder of the company, manufactured women’s underwear (corsets and stockings) in a small French factory. A travelling salesman showed him a new fabric – delicate and soft to the touch – which he loved and decided to use in corsets as a replacement for the drawstring system of the times. When Perrier’s assistant discovered the astonishing feel of the new fabric, she cried “It’s a scandal!”
